Our Roots

HV Urban is urban obsessed on delivering high quality, modern homes to homeowners who crave a lifestyle of urban living in Nashville.

HV Urban was inspired by Hidden Valley Homes which has built a reputation of excellence and quality in Nashville’s most sought-after suburban neighborhoods of Brentwood, Franklin and Cool Springs.

By leveraging Hidden Valley Homes experience, resources, quality control and processes, HV Urban brings a proven award-winning culture into the urban core of Nashville.

Our Beginning

After selling an eCommerce company that he founded, John and Jim met to discuss Hidden Valley Homes building a new home for him and his wife.  The location for the custom home was in the highly sought-after neighborhood of Germantown in Nashville.  In order to build the home Jim would need to purchase and develop the land to accommodate 12 custom townhomes with rooftop patios.  Jim, who never shies away from a new adventure, had wanted to expand his homebuilding expertise into Nashville’s urban core. So, during the lunch, Jim asked what was preventing John from buying the land himself and pursuing his passion of homebuilding.  Jim then challenged John to form a partnership with him that focused on Urban developments.

By the time they paid their bill, they had agreed to partner and take Hidden Valley Homes into the urban core of Nashville with HV Urban. A few days later in March of 2015, HV Urban was born.

Our Expertise

Jim and John’s complimenting backgrounds provide an electric synergy that is the secret to HV Urban’s ability to deliver exceptional homes and developments.

Jim brings an extensive career in home-building. His experience is vast and encompasses every part of the industry.  Jim spent nineteen years with national and publicly traded homebuilder NVR.  At NVR, Jim learned the ropes of homebuilding by seeing and doing it all.  He has held positions at every level from sales rep, project manager, sales manager, regional manager to an area president.

John’s life-long passion for homebuilding fuels his enthusiasm for HV Urban.  With a background unique to the industry, John brings a special dynamic to HV Urban. Like Jim, John developed a competitive edge via collegiate sports.  Following a Division I All-American career, John was drafted by the Chicago White Sox and played for the Oakland Athletics’ organization. While playing baseball John earned a B.S. in electrical engineering and later earned an MBA from Notre Dame.  John worked for 5 years at Square D before being hired away by General Electric where he worked as an executive manager during the Jack Welch era. Then in 2004, he made the leap to homebuilding as a Vice President at NVR, Ryan Homes, in the greater Cincinnati area.

The common background of working at NVR is key to Jim and John’s ability to speak the same language when it comes to the business of homebuilding
